Andi's Adoptables: Meet Cotto!

Cotto is a 2 year old, tan and white, neutered male American Pit Bull Terrier who was surrendered because the owners found out he may need medical care they were not able to provide. The previous owners noted Cotto having difficulty in the hind end, most obvious after he had been exercising. Radiographs were taken by our vets and probable hip dysplasia was diagnosed. The vet said that while hip problems are common and can be managed medically, when symptoms occur at a young age, like with Cotto, it can often indicate a more severe disease, which means further surgery in the future may be needed to manage the problem.

Cotto is a friendly dog that has lived with people of all ages and said to do very well and be friendly with everyone. He has not lived with dogs, but our technicians would be able to counsel adopters on whether they thought their dog would be a good fit for Cotto. While Cotto has never lived in a home with cats, he has come in contact with cats and the owner said he will just try to play with them. Cotto may have special needs, but we like to focus on the “special” part of his wonderful personality! He has become a favorite of many staff members because of his sweet and silly temperament (I mean, just look at that fantastic picture of him!) He enjoys belly rubs and playing with toys, especially playing tug. Cotto would be $125 to adopt, which includes his neuter, vaccines, microchip, and a discounted vet visit. The ideal home for Cotto would be someone prepared to care for Cotto financially and willing to work towards making sure he is comfortable now and in years to come. He is SO worth it though, we promise!

Cotto is available for adoption from the Humane Society of Berks County.
