Daily Do Good: Man Pays Off School Lunch Debt, Hopes Others Do The Same

A Pennsylvania business owner hopes his random act of kindness will inspire others to get out and do the same this holiday season. Gary Nicklow owns Smitty’s Bar and Grill in Uniontown and he recently paid off students’ school lunch debts at Marshall Elementary School.

When principal Jason Johns got the $700 check from Nicklow, he says he felt like a kid on Christmas. “Within an hour, he was here dropping a check to cover all the bills for all the students in the building,” he explains.

Nicklow says he decided to share the story in hopes that it would catch on and others would do the same for local schools, homeless shelters, animal shelters, and such in their areas. He says, “It doesn’t take long and there’s no reason others can’t do the same.”
