As if you didn't know, the 2012-2013 flu season is a bad one! It is one of the hghest rates in a decade. Each year up to 20% of the US gets the flu and the people most susceptible are:
- People with asthma
- People with diabetes
- People with cancer
- People with heart disease and those who have had a stroke
- Pregnant women
- Adults 65 and older
- People with HIV or AIDS
- Children under the age of 5, especially under 2 years old
Symptons include:
- Cough
- Fever/Chills
- Sore throat
- Fatigue
- Stuffy nose
- Aches/headache
So, how do you avoid it? The CD says follow these 8 tips:
- Wash your hands!
- Get a flu shot
- Meditate
- Exercise reguarly
- Stay 6 - 10 feet away from people that are sick
- Rest at least 7 hours a night
- Avoid touching your eyes and nose
- Sneeze and cough into your elbow
What kinds of items hold viruses?
- Elevator buttons
- Escalator railings
- Airplane and train seats
- Pens and pencils
- Exercise machines at the gym
What happens when you get sick?
- Drink plenty of fluids (beer does NOT count)
- Wash your hands often
- Gargle or use a ne ti pot with salt water
- STAY HOME AND REST!
